YOUME Clothing – ‘we may live across the world, but together we live in one world’

Thursday, December 23rd, 2010

It’s about putting you before me, your needs before mine.

This is a collaborative recylcing project with communities in Africa. It is a clothing exchange where children give their oldest piece of old clothing to the organization, and in return the organization gives the children a brand new set of clothing; shirt, school uniform, jacket, etc…
The children’s old clothing is then sent back to America and patches of the old clothing are sewn on to new shirts and sold. The profit from the shirts is then used toward the African community for books, water wells, new building materials, anything the community may need.

Daniel Hinkle, Peace Corps volunteer, asks SackMagazine and friends for support!

Please join the amazing organization Kids to Kids and vote for The Musical Maracas of La Tejera, a youth group in my community who wrote a grant with me to fund a community service through music education project in their community. Voting ends December 31st.

Kids to Kids is an amazing organization that allows kids and young adults in the U.S. to particpate in, facilitate and sponsor community development initiatives in the developing world. The mission of Kids to Kids is to engage and motivate youth around the world towards happy and healthy futures by empowering them to make positive impacts in the lives of other kids, encouraging a new generation of leaders and global citizens.

The organization believes that:

- Kids everywhere have a right to enjoy childhood

- Kids have the ability to make a positive impact on the lives of kids in poor communities around the world

- Kids can be leaders of their own movements to create change

Pretty cool and inspiring stuff!

Thanks for you support!

Peace and love,

Daniel John

Daniel Hinkle - Suchitoto, El Salvador

I want to introduce you to Daniel Hinkle, a current Peace Corps Volunteer in El Salvador! A graduate of Montana State University and a current graduate student at University of Denver, Hinkle began his service for the Peace Corps in February of 2010. His journey started in the United States, Washington, D.C. to be precise, where he met with his fellow Peace Corps trainees before departing to El Salvador. He then traveled to Istepeque, El Salvador where he spent 7 weeks acclimating himself to the climate, culture and community.

“Our activities in Istepeque will work as training and experience to ease us into our final host communities and work sites, where we will be working alone for two years,” said Hinkle.

Hinkle soon faced a medical challenge which proved to a be a test of his physical and mental strength. Within weeks an amoeba had invaded his body. “I found out this past Thursday that my body had become generous host to a ranch of Amoebas (hatched and eggs) and a sizable colony of Giardia living in my intestines…,” said Hinkle. He soon recovered with the help of the Peace Corps medical staff and continued on to his final volunteer site, in Northern Morazon, El Salvador, by the end of March. Here, Hinkle and one other Peace Corps volunteer have spent the majority of the past 8 months volunteering their service and time in the communities of Perquin and La Tejera, among others.

Hinkle invites SackMagazine and friends to follow his journey through El Salvador, the Peace Corps and beyond…follow his blog and be a part of the adventure! Learn of ways to volunteer your time and energy!

When people are watching me,
What do they see,
As they take a good look or a quick peek,
Shall we ever really meet,
And do they really believe what they think they see in me,
Judging and pondering,
How would they ever really know all that,
If they’d ever get the chance,
I’m sure they’d be surprised.
I have nothing to hide and I don’t lie,
Even though sometimes I can be shy,
All ya gotta do is say hi,
An open book with hidden secrets,
That are kept safe In a heart shaped stone lock,
With a lost key,
Maybe someone will take it to lost and found,
What do they see,
Someone who’s lost her way,
Or she’s on top of her game,
It’s all the same,
Cause I’m trapped in both world’s,
Taking me for a dance with lots of twirls,
What do they see,
A playful girl, or a mature woman,
I’m such a show man,
As I have the kind hands of a young woman,
What do they see,
Someone who’s humble or a trouble maker,
As of lately I gotta say nice,
In less I’m enticed,
I won’t lie, feisty I am,
What do they see,
Motivation or lack with aggravation,
I dip my toes in both pools,
But pick up the speed as I take a dive into the positive side,
What do they see,
Beauty or a mess,
Cinderella I am,
Easy on the eyes till twelve midnight,
What do they see,
As they take a quick look, or quick peek,
Is it really ME?

Optimistic,
blissful, not always realistic,
but through it I stick it,
I see so many faces every which way,
wonder if anyone feels the way I do,
even when you loose,
still gotta stay true,
this is me, gotta piece of mind,
as I feel the earth move around me, through me,
against me,
with me,
things changing with every moment,
with one big motion,
filling me with lots of new hope,
my feet are never planted in the earth,
but gliding across,
sometimes the wind tosses me around,
but I use it to help me to fly,
in the sky is where I seem to shine,
but I find it fun to sometimes take a dive,
the way I fell was so devinne,
it is what it is,
maybe this is how it’s so pose to be….
no appointments needed,
just the right speed,
and an E brake if needed,
just lead me to a place I’ve never seen,
if only in my dreams,
there’s a fine line with gullible,
optimistic I am,
north,
south,
east,
west,
will all lead me back to one place,
ME.
