Deco Farkas (a.k.a. Treco)

Thursday, January 26th, 2012

Here is Brazil’s Andre Farkas. As “Treco,” he is one of Sao Paulo’s rising street art stars. No subtitles, but in a rough translation he is basically saying he left an academy and arts school because it was so boring talking about art instead of doing art and the beat up public places made him want to work on the city’s old walls. A few times he had problems with police (because the public walls are not so public… some owners forget the wall until he uses it for art) but he wants to communicate with people.

STS9 Great Cycle Spectacles Tour ~ January 14th 2012,  Denver Colorado @ The Fillmore Auditorium

By: Ashleigh Smith

2012 is predicted to be one of the most highly anticipated years of our generation and livetronica group Sound Tribe Sector Nine (STS9) has taken this anticipation to another level.STS9 kicked off their winter ‘The Great Cycle Spectacles Tour’ in beautiful Denver, CO last weekend to celebrate the end and the beginning of the Mayan calendar which ends on December 21, 2012.

Many have speculated the end of the world or a shift in human consciousness surrounding this event. STS9 however used this opportunity to rejoice over the love, happiness, and connection all beings have with each other and turned all of these ideas into a weekend of music that has led many fans to believe STS9 has been reborn.

Each night the show began with a light hearted message given from a robot voice overhead explaining the importance of inner connection and well being before the band strapped on their jam hats and took the crowd on a wonderful and insightful ride.

A large, pyramid shaped screen sat behind the band surrounded by blue LED lights that displayed images of zodiac signs and other symbols. The screen showed images of different celestial bodies such as Earth, Mars, and the moon and created “Journey Points” in the nights set.

Above all, the music of the evening was exactly what STS9 fans have been hungry for. Each member played their instruments in a way that has been missing in the music scene, now predominately electronic, and has resurrected the integrity of the band for those who have been long time fans.

This has also proved the 180 degree turn that the band took after bassist David Murphy was diagnosed with cancer last year and have done well to ensure the original message STS9 has been conveying for years: live happy, live well, and respect all. Each of these traits shown brightly from each member of the band all night and their true care for music and the Denver scene seemed to dance itself alive and infect the audience with confidence and relief.

True ‘monkey music’ at its finest.

Whether the celebration of STS9’s The Great Cycles Spectacles tour is due to the  end and beginning of the Mayan Calendar or gives insight to the future of the  band it is clear that STS9 has risen once again and are on the trail for an epic new beginning of their own.
