Dear Temple of Transition: I love you. You are the most beautiful human-shaped structure I have ever seen. It was an honour to serve you as a Temple Guardian. And when it came time for you to go, I couldn’t watch you burn. Instead, I watched it in the eyes of others and I know what you meant to them. Thank you.
Here is a really insightful video. It will most likely change the way you view life…in a good way though. It gets a little boring at some parts but if you watch it all the way through I promise you will be glad you did. Here it is…
Alan Watts makes a good point here about our journey through life from birth to our idea of what success is. From the time that we first start attending school we’re taught to chase after this superficial idea of success. Most people, at least in the US, have been taught by the media and our educational system that being successful means being powerful, wealthy or even famous but as Alan Watts has illustrated those people eventually get to “the top” and realize that they still haven’t found the happiness or satisfaction they were looking for. Those people are so busy working hard to achieve their externally influenced belief of what success is that they forgot to “dance along the way,” as Alan describes it.
I think what Alan is trying to say is that people shouldn’t let their journey toward this superficial ideas of success consume their life. People should stop and smell the roses. People need to take more time doing things they’ve always wanted to do like play an instrument or go sky diving or even live with monkeys for a week if that’s what floats their boat.
There is one more thing I’d like to add…Success SHOULD NOT be defined as being wealthy or powerful and stepping on anyone and everyone to get to the top of the metaphorical pyramid with “the eye” at the top like on the back of our one dollar bills. Success should mean that you’ve contributed to the welfare or improvement of your local community or humanity as a whole because then you can die knowing that you played your part in the evolutionary progression of our civilization and you left something for the next generation to build upon instead of creating problems for them to fix. Choose to be part of the solution NOT the problem. ~ Shawn
