Hi there! My name is Amber Martin. I have Midwest roots and a California soul. I like things simple. I often think with my heart instead of my mind. I’m working on that balance. I enjoy photography, watercolors and pottery. I like playing with my dog (and my husband), surfing, yoga and music. I am also an art teacher. Are you hiring?
I usually prefer to be the artist behind the work. My current “me” obsession is my shoes. I’m fascinated with with how I leave them around the house… or the yard. Or anywhere.
So take a look around. I’ve taken a real interest in photography over the last 5 years, but have been doing a little more painting as of late. I’m trying to get an old kick wheel and kiln up and running. Really can’t wait to get into that, and when I do, I’ll share that with you too.
Photography
It took a while for me to come around to the digital age. I’m a traditional artist at heart and enjoy getting my hands dirty.
Even when it comes to photography, I feel I am still very traditional. I do very little, if anything, to my pictures after I take them. Everything can be naturally beautiful at the right angle.
My husband and animals are very accommodating in being my subjects… and they are my favorite things to photograph. My friends, their children and pets are great models too. I love watching people, and catching their candid (and sometimes not so candid) expressions. My husband has learned to look away from me when I have a camera.
Another great source of inspiration is the world around me. Duh! I can’t think of a better way to spend a couple hours than walking around my little seaside Ocean Beach or exploring new territory with camera in hand. You never know what you’ll find, even in a familiar place.
